Xezo Maestro Natural Sea Shell Medium Nib Fountain Pen

xezoI don’t know what I wanted when I decided to buy the Xezo Maestro Natural Sea Shell Medium Nib Fountain Pen. I think what I wanted was a sturdy pen that would be easy to write with. However, this was one of my first times buying a fountain pen. Therefore, I did not know much about how they worked. I simply hoped that when I used the pen I would not be disappointed. That’s all I wanted. I think that I was very lucky. Now, that I am online and looking at different reviews for fountain pens, I see that there are plenty of fountain pens that people bought and found to be lacking. However, I bought this pen and realized that I loved it. Perhaps you can say that it was love at first write.

This pen has a very intricate design. The name of the pen actually comes from this pen’s design.  When you look at this pen in the light, then you see why it is called the natural Sea Shell pen. The pen that I have has a beautiful dark green texture. I sometimes found myself simply looking at it from time to time when I took a pause from writing. The design is nice but it does not get in the way of how the pen writes. It is still possible to grip the pen very firmly. You don’t have to worry about the pen slipping out of your hand. Yes, this is pen to treasure I think. I spent a few hours writing with this pen when I first got it. I thought that I would probably get tired of this pen very quickly. However, I found myself enjoying writing with the pen more and more. Quickly and surely, the pen accommodated my hand. Also, the nib of this pen was nice and firm. I think I know the reason for this. The nib of this pen is stainless steel. This means that when you write with it you can press down quite gently and you will see some really nice and dark lines develop. In fact, I found that I was actually begin to write very lightly as time went on. It was almost as if the pen changed the way that I was writing. I didn’t expect that to happen but it did. Yes, this is a pen that inspires you to elegance. I think that when you write with this pen you find yourself wanting to produce words that are equal to the performance of this pen. I think that I lucked out by finding such a nice pen. I didn’t think that it would be as simple as this. Yet, it was. This is a pen that I think I will be using for quite a long time. In fact, I think that this is going to stay with me for quite a while. If you are looking for a well-designed pen that writes extremely well then you should get this pen.

Conklin Duragraph Fountain Pen Review

conklin duragraphConklin might not be the most widely known company out there or even the best fountain pen manufacturer but they’re certainly on the up, and they’ve pulled something special out of the bag here. My god, can we just talk about how cheap this pen is first? Only fifty five dollars RRP, and sometimes available at a discount. How? How can something so beautiful and such quality be so cheap? I simply could not believe my eyes when I saw the price. I thought to myself, there must be something wrong with this pen. I really expected that this pen should have some type of fatal flaw. Otherwise, how could it be so cheap? It just didn’t make any sense. I know that when something is too good to be true, then it usually is. Yet, this was not the case with this pen. In fact, even though this pen is one of the more affordable, I find that it works better than most of my hundred dollar or even more expensive pens. It represents great value So, let me get right to it.

Let’s talk about the design of this product first. This pen is a wonder. The resin is what makes this happen. The resin is simply translucent.  The resin uses three different colors: orange, black, and white. Also, the nib is engraved in a perfect way. You look at this nib and you see the name Conklin on it. You know that what you are seeing is an excellent product. This is one of the best pens that I have seen for this price point. I think that when you get a pen like this, there is a temptation to think that there is no way that it is going to look as good as this pen does, but it does. It looks really nice.

Alright, I would like to talk about how this pen feels in the hand. I have one word for you on that subject: light. Okay, I have more to say than that. This pen has a wonderful heft. It is not so light that you cannot feel it in your hand. However, because it is light, you don’t get tired after using it. In fact, I found that I could write with it for quite a while without needing to change hand position. Usually, I find that almost impossible. Yes, writing with this pen is very nice. I think that they designed this pen very well. I thought when I was using this pen that I was having a good time using it. I couldn’t stop using it. Using this pen for me became like an addiction. I always had to use this pen. In fact, while I was using this pen I got a new pen from my housemate as a gift. It was really nice and more expensive but I did not like the feel of it. Therefore, I would recommend that you ignore the price tag when you look for a pen. If you want a really nice pen that works really well, then you need to go and get this pen right now. You will like writing with it and you will begin to understand what I mean.

The Montblanc Starwalker Fountain Pen Reviewed

montblanc starwalkerUsing the Montblanc  Starwalker pen for the first time was an amazing experience. Even opening the case for the first time was excellent. Why? The case is beautifully designed.  It truly has the grandeur and beauty of a Montblanc product. Now the pen, the pen, what can I say about such an excellent object. How about this? When, I held the pen in my hands, for the first time, I had to stop and gaze at it. I had to make sure that this stream-lined, aerodynamic tool I held in my hands was actually a pen, so I had to stop gazing in wonder and use it.

Check out the price and more reviews of the product here.

Wow. What a pen. It is not merely the heft of the pen that stands out to the person who uses the Starwalker for the first time; it is also the flow of the thing. This is a pen that grazes across the page. I would use it for a few minutes and I would find that the smallest movements of my hand would create such wonderful beautiful lines across the paper. This is an incredibly smooth writing pen.  You don’t need to worry about gaps from this pen or holes in this paper. This pen simply does not stop with its surprises. You have no need to worry that the pen is simply going to eject ink everywhere and make the paper and your hands very wet. No, this pen writes quickly and dryly. You will sit down and be amazed by its’ prowess. Perhaps, the reason this pen writes so well and so quickly and so beautifully is because of its nib. I have a medium nib pen myself and I found that when I wrote with it I could create the most wonderful curves in my c’s and s’s without needing to stop for a second. Of course, as per usual, this excellent nib is fourteen karat. The Montblanc  logo is beautiful etched upon this nib.

Also, filling the pen is very easy. This pen has a cartridge filler and whenever I use it I find that my pen is filled quickly and nicely.  Usually for me, filling a pen is a really agonizing and horrible process leading to a huge mess. However, with this pen not only did that not happen but the pen was filled very well as well. In fact, in the time I used it, I only had to fill it once. This pen really can take a lot of use.

The Starwalker pen is an excellent Montblanc pen. From its’ style which merely foreshadows its’ beautiful presence, one’s mind is constantly blown when using this wonderful and amazing product. I think that once my hands touched its’ excellent design, I must have known that I was about to sue a wonderful product. It’s good to know that this initial thought was a correct one. If you are looking for a pen that you will fall in love with, then look no further than the Starwalker.

Reviewing the Best Retractable Fountain Pens

pilot caplessWho else hates caps? They get lost; they fall off randomly, and generally get ink on your hands when you try to top your pens with them.  However, when looking for fountain pens, it appears like the best of the best pens have caps. Sometimes, you want the best of quality and convenience. Should it be so hard to find the two encapsulated in one pen? Well, I’ve tried and I have come up with a few pens that I think contain both qualities. I basically chose two fountain pens at both ends of the price spectrum:  The Pilot Capless Decimo Fountain Pen and Namiki Raden Capless Fountain Pen.

The Pilot Capless Decimo Fountain Pen is beautiful object. You would easily guess from looking at it that it would cost double its 150 euros. However, it doesn’t and you are getting an excellent product for a cheap price. I found that writing with this pen was easy and simple. The pen fit very well in my hand and I could right for an extremely long time with it. Also, the pen could write for quite a long time without needing to be refilled. This is an excellent pen. I think that people often see the price and think that the pen cannot be as great as it is because it is so cheap. Well, those people are wrong because this is a pen that is both wonderful to use and look at. If you want something cheap and powerful, I would go with the Pilot Capless Decimo Fountain Pen.

Now, the Namiki Raden Capless Fountain Pen is shiny. Why? Because the shell fragments that are wonderfully finished by hand into the pen. Yes, this is a luxury product. However, that being said, this pen does not feel too delicate. You can really push this pen for quite a long time. I know that I did. I did not need to press too hard to make deep marks, but when I was writing quite quickly the pen moved with me. It may feel like a collector’s item, but this pen is quite sturdy. Perhaps, this sturdiness comes from the fact that the pen has a rhodium plated nib. This nib is tough. I’m telling you that I thought I had ground the pen down but looked at the nib and it flashed light in my eye it was so shiny. This is a pen that you can use for a long time and forget that it is in your hands. Yes, it may be expensive but if you want an amazing retractable pen I would go with this.

Retractable pens are excellent. They don’t require caps that get lost and end up everywhere but where you need them. If you are looking for a cheap retractable fountain pen that does twice the work for the price then I would recommend that you buy the Pilot Capless Decimo Fountain Pen. If you want a beautiful luxury product that is tough then I would go with the Nakimi.

Montblanc Bohème Fountain Pen Review

Montblanc BohèmeEverybody knows about Mountblanc pens, they are known for how well designed they are. They have had this reputation for years. I decided that I needed to find out if this reputation was deserved. So, I simply went out and bought myself a Montblanc pen. The pen that I bought was the Montblanc Bohème. I spent quite long time writing with the pen, and now, I think I can assure you that this is one of the best writing instruments that I have used in a long time. This is a pen that can make a person’s jaw drop simply due to its’ design, then make a person gaze in shock due to its’ performance.

When I first used the pen, I was surprised by how the pen felt in my hand. Was this truly how a Mont blanc was supposed to feel like? Yes, yes it was.  I should not have been surprised by the wonderful heft that made me feel as if I was holding something both solid and light. Writing with this pen was like skating on a frozen pool. I only had to lightly press on paper and my thoughts slid out of the nib. What a nib it was.  It was an eighteen-karate gold nib that had been plated with rhodium. This meant that even though the pen was hard, it wrote soft. Again, this is simply one of the wonderful paradoxes that make up the pen. It should be heavy but it feels light. It should slip out of your hand it looks so sleek but it stayed firmly in my grip. When I wrote with this pen, I did not need to pause often and stretch my hands the way I do when I use most pens. For some reason, this pen quickly fit my hand and made writing a joy as opposed to a chore.

Filling the pen was also incredibly simply because it used a cartridge. I can use converters and do like using them, but this cartridge was convenient and simple. Filling the pen did not take a long time at all. I found myself filling and writing quicker than you could say this sentence. So, not only was this writing tool incredibly easy to use, I was also able to use it quickly again when it ran out of ink. Of course, it did take a long time for it to run out of ink, but that hardly seems like a problem at all.

Yes, the Bohème is truly a pen that represents the best part of the Montblanc name. It has a wonderful, flawless design. The grip the pen has is paradoxically wonderful. Again, the pen seems as if it should be too heavy, but yet it was wonderfully light. Writing with it was not a difficult task at all. I found myself spreading my words left and right with an ease that I have not experienced in a long time. This is truly a pen for a pen-lover.

Finding the Best Fountain Pens Under $200

lamy 2000 fountain penFinding a cheap fountain pen can be difficult. They are often very expensive and it can be hard to understand what makes one pen so different from another. Also, once you buy one of the more expensive pens, you don’t want to be a situation where the pen breaks due to shoddy construction. Unfortunately, pens can be cheaply made yet still be sold for astronomical high prices. So, with that in mind, I have tested out a few pens. The good news is that it is possible to find pens that won’t break and will write well.

The Lamy 2000 retails for under 200 dollars. Don’t let this price fool you, this pen feels and writes as if it was worth double that amount. The pen has a beautiful black and silver design. It really is a wonder to look at. Also, the pen comes with a solid 14 karat gold nib. This nib is sturdy and smooth. The pen is also quite comfortable in hand. When I was using it I found myself writing for very long periods of time without taking breaks. In addition, when I was writing the pen stayed on the page without skipping once. This is one the nicest pens I had the opportunity to use. For the current price and more detailed reviews you can head over to the product page here.

The Pilot Vanishing Point fountain pen’s name is descriptive. You can retract the point of the pen by clicking a button on the top. The nib is gold and quite durable. The clip is positioned near the top of the pen, closer to the nib, so that may take a while to get accustomed to. Overall, writing with this pen is a pretty smooth experience. It takes very little time to get comfy using this pen. I think that this is definitely a pen to use if you don’t like to fiddle with caps.  The pen retails for 175 dollars.

The Pelikan Tradition 200 Fountain pen has a steel nib that is gold plated.  It also has a very cool window on it so you can view the ink inside the pen. The heft of the pen is nice. You can write with it for a very long time because the pen is so light. It also has a bountiful ink capacity. I used it for a long time before I had to refill it. The nib is sleek and makes writing a breeze.  This pen retails for somewhere between 150 and 200 dollars.

Each pen that I have discussed here is a fantastic writing instrument. If you are looking for a nice retractable pen that writes quite smoothly then I would recommend the Pilot Vanishing Point. The pen is durable and comfortable. If you are looking for a pen that looks astonishing, pleasing to hold, and easy to write with then I would recommend you go with the Lamy 200 Fountain Pen. If you want a light pen, with a very interesting design and excellent ink capacity, then I would recommend you go with the Pelikan Tradition 200 Fountain Pen.

Delta Virtuosa Fountain pen Review

delta virtuosaThe first time I used this pen, I was immediately astonished by how quickly it moved across the page. This surprise came from the fact that when I took the pen out of its’ box, I held up the pen and realized that it had a quite comfortable heft but wondered if that heft might prevent me from being able to scribble as quickly as I wanted to. My doubts were proved wrong in the first minutes of use. This is a fine pen that performs very well under pressure. It produces dark, firm lines without gaps or spaces. There is much to recommend about the Delta Virtuosa Fountain pen.

The Delta Virtuosa Fountain pen has an extraordinary grip. When I hold it, I feel as if my hand is being caressed by the pen.  Writing with the pen is not a chore; instead, it feels as if the pen and my hand are one. There is a flow to this. When I guide the pen along the page, I feel as if I am running my hand through water. Therefore, the experience of writing is quite rapid and easy, not something all of the top fountain pens have on offer.

The pen produces letters without stuttering and making ugly breaks and spacing errors. When I use this pen, I am able to write endlessly without feeling the need to slow down. I write quite lightly; so, it was nice to observe the pen producing nice dense lines even though I was not straining myself to press down incredibly hard on the paper. Also, I have noticed that this pen is quite gentle on the paper that it is used on. I have been able to write on quite fine paper without noticing any scratches or tears. Because this pen is able to do its’ job so well, I am able to focus on what I am writing completely. I do not have to think about whether or not the pen needs more ink. In fact, it is able to write without being re-filled for a very long time.

I have noticed that when I do refill the pen, it does not take very much time at all. All I have to do is draw the ink out with the converter, and then put it back in the pen. The converter suctions ink out very quickly, and I do not spend too much time getting rid of air bubbles. This is great because it means that I have plenty of time to write.

This is quite a pricey pen, and if you don’t have the budget for it, something a little cheaper which you may consider is the Waterman Hemisphere, another excellent pen.

I think that the Delta Virtuosa Pen is an excellent fountain pen. The pen has a comfortable weight in my hand, which means that I do not have to spend time re-adjusting it and turning it around my fingers. It creates solid, deep lines on paper without much effort on my part. Finally, refilling the pen is very easy because the converter is so well-designed. I have had a wonderful time using the pen because of its’ convenient features and excellent design. Comes with the top recommendation of bestfountainpenshq.com!

Lamy Vista Fountain Pen Review

lamy vistaThe Lamy Vista Fountain pen is one of the demonstrator range of pens which means that the body of the pen is clear allowing you to see inside it and giving it a sort of futuristic look. It is available in colours as well. The clear body allows one to see through the pen and judge the ink levels. When purchased in colors, the see through option is compromised, but there is a small elliptical perforation that can allow one to judge the ink levels, really useful for knowing when you will need to change.

There is no old fashioned and ‘fancy’ design as they’ve gone with more of a modern look, and neither is the pen very pricey. The pen’s plastic body makes it lightweight which is perfect for everyday writing. But it’s not that sturdy and as you would expect cannot handle rough treatment. At first the pen is shiny but after wear and tear, the lustre may well end up gone and scratches appear. Since it is made of plastic, this is inevitable, but it is great value and this certainly doesn’t make it a negative choice.

The cap features a pull-off mechanism and the clip is shaped like a huge paper clip. The name ‘Lamy’ is engraved on the pen on one side of the bottom.

The nib is a steel design with a polished appearance. It is available in multiple sizes as well as in a Left-Handed version.

The top of the pen’s body has a kind of curved groove which enhances the grip on the pen and makes it easier to write with. This is a great feature because it ensures the pen won’t slip while writing fast.

When purchased, Lamy Vista comes with a disposable ink cartridge. Lamy Vista has an option to use either a larger pen cartridge, or if you would rather, you can use a piston convertor to use another cartridge.

Now the writing part, this pen is very good for writing as well as drawing. The pen writes smooth and doesn’t scratch even using the extra fine sized nib. The ink doesn’t bleed or leak on the paper or in general.

If you are drawing with this pen, keep in mind that the nib is not flexible which will lead to hard lines with feathering. This doesn’t make it a bad option for drawing at all but it is worth remembering that this will definitely provide a certain look to your drawing.

This pen is suitable for someone who uses fountain pens a lot and can become your first choice, this pen is also a truly great entry level fountain pen. It is ideal for someone just starting out who has never used one before as it grips well and is simple enough to start using. The price is low as is the weight of the pen. Some might consider the pen cheap to use because of the weight. For everyday-beginner-use, this pen is durable and feels functional.

Pilot Vanishing Point Collection Retractable Fountain Pen Review

pilot vanishing pointThis Pilot Vanishing Point Retractable Fountain pen doesn’t really look like a fountain pen but more like a ball point pen due to its retractable nib function. It’s made in Japan and is available in many colours including matte black which looks cool. The other colours have a shiny lacquer finish unlike the matte look. We have a full Pilot retractable fountain pen review for you here on the site.

The Vanishing Point pen doesn’t have a traditional cap but there are rings designed to make it look like it does. At the blind cap there is the button that can be pushed to bring out the nib. The top cap has a small opening on its head from where the nib comes out.

The design of the pen is sleek and has an executive feel, very minimalist and classy with an understated feel. Indeed it is more the feel of this pen, which writes excellently, which makes this one of the very best fountain pens. The clip on the ‘cap’ is springy and helps to keep the pen in place.

The nib or the feed doesn’t draw out when the pen is not in use due to its sophisticated ramp-like mechanism that shields the nib. So when a person pushes the button, the ramp slides down and the nib emerges.

Talking more about nibs, you can unscrew the bottom of the pen and you can remove the ink convertor attached to the nib. The entire pen disassembles and you must be careful. The nib is made of 18 carat solid gold. Ink refilling can be done by dipping the entire nib unit into a bottle and turning the convertor piston. Alternatively, the convertor can be separated from the nib handle. It’s advised not to dip the nib into the ink while it’s still attached to the ‘cap’ as it’s not easy to clean the stray ink.

When you come to the writing part, you’ll notice that the medium nib actually gives you fine nib like experience. For many people, the nib is not a great one. It scratches, it is dry and it also skips. To fix this, it’s highly suggested to take the pen to a nib miester to fix it. Once the nib is fixed, it writes smooth and doesn’t have any issues. It also writes a bit darker regardless of the ink type on a normal paper. Another hindrance while writing is the placement of the clip. It is on top of the pen and makes it difficult to hold the pen while writing. Not a great thing for fast writers as it causes a lot of discomfort.

This Pilot Vanishing Point Fountain pen is only a fountain pen in disguise. It is okay to use it on a regular basis but it’s not recommended to spend much on it as it has quite a few flaws. The good part about this pen though, is that it’s very practical to use. The ink also doesn’t bleed onto the paper or even leak in general. It’s not much on the design aspect not is it great on the writing aspect. Once the nib is fixed, then it’s a good writer but otherwise, it’s an average fountain pen in disguising itself as a ball point pen.

Best Waterman Fountain Pens

waterman expertWaterman Fountain pens come in many different designs, they’re undoubtedly one of the best manufacturers of fountain pens in the world. We’ve put together some information on the best waterman models of fountain pen to help your decision when it comes to purchasing a pen as a gift or for yourself.

To begin with, the design is what sets the pens apart with the functionality being the same. Waterman pens are a bit pricey – hence it helps to know which one would suit your needs and style before you purchase. The Waterman pens are a statement and we’ll review the designs of all of them.

Edson: This pen is available in two colours – Blue Sapphire and Black Diamond. It’s a great pen to have if you use it to everyday writing as its frame is sturdy and the ink flows really well even at an altitude. The nib is set into the barrel which furthers its sleek design. The risk of ink leakage is greatly minimized because of the complex construction of the pen.

Elegance: This pen gently merges the line with jewellery. Intricate designs on its exterior and engravings on the 18 carat gold nib make it nothing short of a sophisticated investment. This is perfect for someone wanting to make a luxurious statement while signing a contract.

Exception: Unlike many fountain pens, Exception employs a square figure (hence the name). This ensures a stronger grip while writing and its gold plated exterior makes it a fine statement. It also comes in a silver design.

Carene: The figure of this pen employs geometrical design that is trendy and elegant. The 18 carat gold nib is integrated into the body giving the look of a silhouette.

Charleston: This one is a combination of the look of vintage fountain pens with a modern twist. Charleston is one of the oldest productions of the Waterman. It has a curvy exterior and is influenced by the Hundred Year Pen.

Perspective: This pen is for the modern and trendy. The design includes a thinner overall look with parallel lines running across its entire shape. Its silver nib too has these parallel lines engraved on it. Using architecture as inspiration for the design, the parallel lines give off the image of an infinite loop.

Expert: This pen is beautifully shaped like a cigar. This pen features Parisan styling combining retro and modern look. This one is sturdy and perfect for someone on the go.

Hemisphere: This pen is much slimmer than all of the above discussed pens. It has a clean minimalistic design with a silver nib that is fashioned with engravings. The body of the pen gives a polished silk look.

All of the Waterman Fountain pens come with the choice of using an ink cartridge or a convertor. Waterman pens write really smooth without scratching the page. Being a product of France, Waterman pens require an investment to be made, but one that is always worth it.

Having discussed a little about all the pens, the best one is Edson because only that ensures uninterrupted ink flow no matter the angle, after all the main purpose of writing with a fountain pen is to ensure good writing and free flowing ink.
